About MLP London Bridge Speakers

Building confident speakers and leaders in the heart of London since 2005

Our Story

MLP London Bridge Speakers is a vibrant Toastmasters club serving the London Bridge area. We're part of District 91, Area L23, and have been helping members overcome their fear of public speaking and develop essential leadership skills in a supportive, friendly environment.

We're part of Toastmasters International, a global organization with over 16,200 clubs worldwide. Our club meets at St Christopher's Inn, 121 Borough High Street, London SE1 1NP on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM.

In September 2025, we celebrated a special milestone anniversary and recently secured permanent use of the private room at St Christopher's Inn. Our members actively participate in contests, with recent winners progressing to Area level competitions in both Humorous Speech and Table Topics categories.

What We Offer

Our club offers a structured educational program with 6 different Pathways to choose from, each designed to develop specific communication and leadership skills.

From your Ice Breaker speech to advanced projects, you'll receive constructive feedback and support from experienced members at every step of your journey.

Real member stories

Hear from our members about their journeys (from our November 18, 2025 meeting)

Nick - MLP Member, 10 Years

"When I started Toastmasters 10 years ago I was socially introverted. I couldn't even look people in the eye. I shook and sweated when I talked to more than two people."

"I remember I did a table topic and I was on stage for 10 seconds just shaking and mumbling and then everyone clapped for me. I realised that was Toastmasters - encouragement. My confidence has continued to grow year on year and I have now delivered over a hundred speeches and taken up many leadership roles in my club and above."

"Whatever you do, even if you just go on stage for only 10 seconds as a guest and mumble, it's a start and it's a good accomplishment."

Emily - Nearly 10 years

"I went to a face-to-face meeting nearly ten years ago and everyone's clapping as they go on stage, and I was just shaking my head, like 'what is this?' But then you get used to that part, or you embrace that part, and realise that it is a nice thing to do, it's encouraging to everyone."

"Everyone genuinely is welcome, there's no cliques. The fact that we have guests and new people every meeting allows for that, so it becomes its own little community."

Matt - Experienced member

"I remember when I first went along to Toastmasters, it was a couple of times where I really had to force myself to actually go into the meeting. I think everyone has that real big hurdle to actually overcome and get started with it."

"The thing that really surprised me was having that ability to be able to find things to say, which was something I used to really struggle with. It does have a really big impact on how you come across at work and how good you are at communicating."

Why members came back

Hear from guests who visited us and decided to return:

"I came here two weeks ago for the first time... I have a mentor who challenged me to work on my public speaking skills because I initially hated it - so many memories from being forced to do it in school. But I'd never actually done it out of choice."

"Quick story: I came on the first visit, stood outside, couldn't come in, ran away. And then I came back again, tried it, enjoyed it."

"It's like 'eating the frog' - you do the hardest thing in your week first. After clearing that 20-foot gap, everything else in my week was four-foot gaps, five-foot gaps, because I'd already challenged the most difficult thing. So I'm back here to enjoy myself and improve my public speaking."

— Hassan, returned after 2 weeks

"I am back for my second time. Persistence is key. I found this group who was super welcoming, and it was just a brilliant place to be."

— Sophie-Ann, returning guest

"I have career goals I'm trying to build towards and I need to persuade people that I'm reputable. I recognized I need to work on my breathing... Two weeks ago, last session, it was clear as soon as I started - this is something I can work on and need to work on all the time."

— Sam, committed to continuous improvement

"This is the second time for me here. I actually enjoyed the last time which was the first time - very, very good, very organized. Public speaking is a skill that improves over time, not overnight. You have to come and keep improving."

— Amr, registered for membership (later became VP Membership!)

"I make myself ill just thinking about the thoughts of speaking in front of people. Speaking in front of more than two people is terrifying. For me it's a massive journey and transformation. Public speaking and communication - these are skills for life."

— Donna, starting her transformation journey
