Table Topics in Action
Real examples of impromptu speeches from our members
See how our members practice thinking on their feet with 1-2 minute responses to unexpected questions
What is Table Topics?
Table Topics is an opportunity to practice impromptu speaking. A member asks a question, invites someone to the stage, and they have between 1-2 minutes to answer it.
It's a fantastic skill to be able to confidently answer unexpected questions - most times in life we don't know what someone is going to ask us, and we don't always have a prepared speech ready. There's no right or wrong answer - it's about practicing confident, spontaneous communication.

8 spontaneous speeches on life, goals, and personal growth
"What does confidence look like to you?"
"I think confidence is being able to predict. If you do A and you're going to get B, and you do it with conviction, with a belief that you will be able to get the results that you want - that's going to give you confidence."
"If you go out in the market, you're going to know that person who doesn't know where she's going. She looks confused, not very confident. But if someone is walking with conviction - 'I'm going where I'm going.'"
"Imagine a cat in your neighborhood. Whenever they go somewhere, they go with conviction. Like, 'I've got stuff to do.' That's confidence to me. Know where you're going, believe in where you're going, and pour all your heart into it."
Time: 1:30 | Key strength: Great use of imagery and real-life examples
"What's a talent that you have?"
"I wish I had a talent. I look at other people - they're really good at languages, tech, video games - and I think, why can't I have that talent?"
"I've reflected on this quite a lot recently, and I've come to the conclusion that I like just doing many things. I'm not someone who's obsessed about one thing. I really like trying new things. One day I might be learning a language, then trying to sing, then doing some coding for a bit."
"Jack of all trades, master of none - but maybe that's not such a bad thing. I think I have a talent of being just open to try anything. There's no one big talent, but it's just being open, trying many things, and seeing where that goes."
Time: 1:58 | Key strength: Honest reflection and turning perceived weakness into strength
"If you had a time machine with one use, where would you go?"
"I've got a different take. I wouldn't actually use a time machine to go back in time or to the future. I don't think there's a point in going back to change things because one small thing can have a massive knock-on effect and affect many different things."
"That uncertainty would make you quite anxious and I don't want to be anxious about my future... But actually, let me change my answer! I would go into the future one year from now."
"I'm quite a big fan of Formula One and there's a big regulation change in 2026. I just can't wait - it's only about three months away. I'd go into the future, see which teams are the best... But going back, I think I'd stay in the present. I like to stay in the present - I think that's the best way for me."
Time: 1:50 | Key strength: Bold contrarian take with personal story
"If you could change or adopt any habit, what would it be?"
"I think I'm quite persistent - once I start something, I usually continue with it. Slow and steady wins the race. But there's one part of my life that's kind of evaded me."
"When I was growing up, you could play football or you could play a musical instrument. The Venn diagram did not cross. So socially it was not a possibility, and I didn't learn an instrument."
"In my 20s, I tried learning guitar from scratch. I spent a couple years with a teacher who came to my house every week, and I stuck at it. Then I had children, and it fell by the wayside. That guitar is now in the corner of my room gathering dust."
"If I like to think what I'd like to look like in the future, one habit I'd like to carry forward is to persist with a musical instrument and get at least competent at that."
Time: 1:41 | Key strength: Compelling personal narrative with clear structure
"Do you believe in destiny, or do you create your own destiny?"
"I think it's kind of a mixture. If something happens not very well, I can't think 'well, it's just fate.' But if something good happens, I think it's not destiny - it's because I did something to make it happen. We sort of tell ourselves our own stories to make ourselves feel better."
"I think deep down I do believe there's such thing as destiny. When you don't get a job, but then the next couple of interviews you do, you get a better job. Or you might meet someone really lovely at that job - your future husband or wife."
"I think it's nice to believe in something kind of magical, someone looking out over you to guide your life. On both sides I do believe in destiny, but I understand why other people don't as well."
Time: 1:18 | Key strength: Balanced perspective with relatable examples
