How Our Meetings Work
Every Toastmasters meeting follows a structured agenda designed to help you develop communication and leadership skills.
Our Meeting Location
We meet every Tuesday at 6:30pm in the private room at St Christopher's Inn. We're delighted to have permanent use of this space as our club home, providing a comfortable and dedicated environment for our meetings.
Our meetings typically run for approximately 2 hours, followed by optional post-meeting socials where members can network and continue conversations in a relaxed setting.
What Happens at Our Meetings
Each meeting is carefully planned with a variety of activities:
Prepared Speeches
We aim to have 3 speeches at every meeting, giving members regular opportunities to practice and improve. Members request speech slots through EasySpeak based on their Pathways projects.
Speech Evaluations
Each prepared speech receives constructive feedback from an assigned evaluator, helping speakers understand their strengths and areas for growth.
Table Topics
Impromptu speaking practice where members respond to surprise questions, building confidence in thinking on their feet.
See real Table Topics examples →Meeting Roles
Every meeting includes roles such as:
- • Toastmaster (meeting leader)
- • Timer (tracks all speaking times)
- • Ah-Counter (notes filler words)
- • Grammarian (highlights good language use)
- • General Evaluator (provides overall meeting feedback)
- • Table Topics Master (leads impromptu speaking)
All members are encouraged to participate in roles to develop leadership and organizational skills.
Sign Up for Roles and Speeches
We use EasySpeak (accessible at toastmasterclub.org) to plan our meetings. Members can:
- • Indicate whether they're attending upcoming meetings
- • Request speech slots for their Pathways projects
- • Sign up for meeting roles
- • View meeting agendas
- • Update speech titles and workbook assignments
Please try to sign up by the Sunday before each Tuesday meeting to help with planning.
Getting the Most from Meetings
To help everyone improve quickly:
- • We encourage all members to give a speech every 2-3 meetings. Regular practice is the best way to progress through your Pathways.
- • Take on different meeting roles to develop various skills
- • Provide speech slots in advance so evaluators can prepare
- • Update your workbook assignments in EasySpeak after completing speeches
- • Arrive by 6:30pm so we can start on time
Remember: larger clubs don't offer as many speaking opportunities as we do. Take advantage of the regular chances to speak and practice!
